My Work

As an artist I explore the changes in life and our environment. Born and raised on the same London Street in Bankside, I have devoted my career to honouring these changes I have witnessed over the past 50 years.

I strive to express the passage of life, from one moment to the next, and to confront how mortality impacts us all. Through the use of bold colours and textured shapes, my art aims to capture the nostalgia of memories for my friends and family who have passed on.

I seek to convey the sense of existence between then and now, what if tonight it all stopped. My works evoke a sense of melancholy and change to come.

As a child growing up in 1970s London, I was drawn to the power of artistic expression, particularly in the medium of painting with oils.

I have embraced a number of influences as diverse as John Piper, Maurice Utrillo, and John Burningham. My mindful paintings aim to capture the darker grandiose beauty of derelict Victorian warehouses, markets and the riverfront, while also displaying my deep love for and connection to the place I have called home since childhood.

With a lifetime of powerful memories I strive to join the past, the now, the what's to come into my work.

Blessed with three small children with my childhood sweetheart, I paint not just for myself but also for them. I want to leave a record of the unique energy of Bankside for a broader audience and my children.

I was asked to appear on this years SKY ARTs "Landscape Artist Of The Year 2024". Being shortlisted as a contemporary artist and showcasing my work on television was an experience.

Tate Modern Garden Project

"The Lesson” or "Embodiment of Joy: A Celebration of Aquatic Bliss"

 In the early months of 2023, I proudly unveiled a work designed
specifically for the acclaimed Tate Modern Garden. My sculpture now graces this prestigious space, basking in the glow of the Garden's recent triumphs, including the esteemed Green Flag award and the distinguished Britain in Bloom
title.

Cast in aluminium

Forged meticulously in enduring aluminium, the artwork captures a moment of exuberance as carefree swimmers revel in the tranquillity of the pool. The selection of cold cast aluminium as the medium bestows a timeless quality upon the figures, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Placed
strategically at the heart of the garden's water feature, the sculpted ensemble weaves an enchanting narrative, harmonizing with the natural surroundings in a symphony of form and movement.

In The Tate Modern Garen

The Tate Modern, an icon in the realm of contemporary art, stands as a testament to artistic innovation and cultural resonance. The privilege of having my creation permanently exhibited within its award-winning garden is without a doubt, a zenith in my artistic odyssey. The sculpture, a poignant exploration of human joy and connection with nature, invites patrons to engage in a sensory journey.

My New Studio

I am delighted to share the exciting news that I will soon be moving into a brand-new studio. This new space, characterized by its fresh ambiance, west-facing orientation, and pristine white surroundings will be such a refreshing change. As part of this exciting development, I will be participating in the “London Open Studios” program this year. I extend a warm invitation to you and others who share an appreciation for the arts to visit the studio during this period. You are welcome to witness works in progress and engage in discussions about the creative process while enjoying a cup of tea. Your support and presence would be greatly appreciated as I embark on this new artistic venture.
